Schools Out for Summer

Schools out and the numbers are in!

Through our ‘United Against Division’ programme during 2023/24 Nil by Mouth visited 112 schools across 22 local authorities reaching 5,194 pupils.

Highlights included a Euro 24 event bringing together schools from Ferguslie Park, a project allowing young football fans in Edinburgh to examine the impact of anti-social behaviour at games and a visit to Britain’s most northern mainland primary school in John O’Groats.

The programme is supported by the Scottish Government as part of its ‘Tackling Sectarianism’ programme which funds work right across the country in a range of settings including schools, colleges, workplaces and youth groups.

Earlier this year the Minister for Victims and Community Safety Siobhian Brown MSP visited the programme in West Lothian to witness the benefits of taking part. The project also offers the opportunity for teachers to learn more about the issue with the charity offering training to staff in North & South Lanarkshire, Dumfries & Galloway and Argyll & Bute as well as to the next generation of teachers at Strathclyde University.

Huge thanks to the pupils, teachers and schools who have worked alongside us and we look forward to kicking the project off again in August.
