Famous faces from the world of Scottish Junior football came together to show off their skills and raise money to support Nil by Mouth’s ‘United Against Division’ schools programme.
Hosted by Benburb FC the ‘Legends‘ tournament, held on Saturday 10th Jun, boasted teams of former players from a host of clubs: Arthurlie, Auchinleck Talbot, Beith, Benburb, Largs, Port Glasgow, St Anthony’s, St Roch’s and Troon. As well as legends from the past a guest team from the cult PG and Dak podcast competed and ran out eventual winners of the ‘Alex Gourlay’ Cup' sponsored by Nil by Mouth and named after a much loved figure in the Junior game, pipping Troon 1-0 in the final.
Fans turned out to cheer on their heroes with old rivalries being renewed and smiles, handshakes and drinks in the clubhouse shared afterwards. The event raised £575 for the charity, which will be used to support our work in west of Scotland schools. This takes the total raised for our charity by ‘The Legends’ to over £2,500 in recent years.
Nil by Mouth Director Dave Scott said:
‘Once again Scottish Junior Football has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help support our work bringing kids from different faiths and traditions together. This is the third year ‘The Legends’ has been in support of our charity and since then well over £2,500 has been raised. We are really grateful to all the players and volunteers who make this event such a success with Robert Burns and Benburb due special thanks for putting the whole show on the road. There are big personalities and clubs in Junior football but even bigger hearts.'
