A group of Glasgow businesswomen are donning their trainers and getting on their bikes to raise money for an award winning charity.

Members of Scottish Women in Business (swib) have signed up to take the ‘5×50’ challenge to raise funds for leading anti-sectarian charity Nil by Mouth’s Champion for Change schools programme.

The challenge sees several businesswomen committing to 5km of physical exercise, every day, over 50 consecutive days including walking, swimming, cycling and running. The group are seeking donations from people across west central Scotland to help them ensure that all Nil by Mouth services to schools remain free of charge over the next 12 months.

Swib is a Glasgow based non profit membership & networking group for business women. With over 120 members, the group has been established for 23 years and organises monthly networking events with high profile speakers. Swib draws members from a range of firms and professions, from entrepreneurs to small business owners to corporate decision makers, swib members are as diverse as Glasgow’s business landscape.

Nil By Mouth (NBM) was selected by swib members as its ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2015 and the partnership will see swib host a series of events and fundraisers as well as providing professional advice and support to the charity. Earlier this year Nil by Mouth founder Cara Henderson was named Evening Times ‘Scotswoman of the Year’

Nil by Mouth Campaign Director Dave Scott said:

‘Having swib’s support has been a huge boost for our charity as we mark our 15th anniversary and we are thrilled to be its ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2015. Last year we worked with over 5,000 school pupils and it is this type of grassroots work that will help us create a Scotland free from bigotry. These women are going above and beyond the call of duty  and we hope people will get behind their efforts and sponsor them as they undertake their ‘5×50’ challenge.’

Swib’s Vice President Liz Taylor said:

“Each year, swib chooses a charity to support and the 2015 swib Charity of the Year is Nil By Mouth. As a relatively small charity making a big impact, Nil By Mouth is an outstanding example of successful collaboration, partnership and networking which fits perfectly with swib’s values. Our 5X50 challenge is a team effort where everyone in the team does something every single day in order to make a difference and it illustrates the progressive approach that makes swib and Nil By Mouth a successful partnership. We are delighted to be supporting Nil By Mouth in this way”
