Pitch Perfect is an exciting marketing competition which gives further and higher education students the opportunity to create and design their very own anti-sectarian awareness campaign.
The students involved can opt to use cutting edge technologies or more traditional methods of advertising but ultimately they must produce a campaign which stimulates and generates interest in Nil By Mouth’s campaign to challenge sectarianism in our society. In addition students get the chance to spend a real budget, plan a campaign and gain invaluable experience pitching to an independent panel of experts.
This year saw us team up with The City of Glasgow College and their HND Marketing Students who all took part in the Pitch Perfect competition as a requirement of their SQA Higher National Unit: Advertising: Researching and Planning a Local Campaign.
Following an initial presentation and briefing from Nil by Mouth’s Campaign Director the students were put into groups and given three weeks to come up with a campaign which would tackle bigotry and promote greater tolerance in society.
After adjudication by lecturers five successful groups went through to the final which was held in The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow. There they were met by an experienced panel of judges drawn from the worlds of marketing, PR and journalism. After much deliberation #KissBigotryGoodbye was chosen by the judges as the winning pitch and was launched in Summer 2015. The campaign was featured on BBC Radio Scotland, Sky Sports News, several newspapers and even the iconic Evening Times ‘Wee Red Book’ of football fixtures and trivia. The campaign has galvanise fans from across Scotland and is helping challenge negative perceptions of the sports and the supporters who make it.
NBM are pleased to announce that we are looking into holding the competition again this academic year after resounding hugely positive responses from both students’ and college staff. We would welcome notes of interest from College’s who are keen to expand the range of learning experiences on offer to their students as Pitch Perfect may just be the answer.
The design and pitch supports entrepreneurial thinking and the programme gives the students the opportunity to pitch to some real life dragons. The competition would be suitable for any group of students but could help meet SQA outcomes for those involved in; media, computing, employability, journalism or design courses.
