The 42 in 42 Team set forth from Pittodrie

A group of North-East football fans have gone the extra mile by raising money for three charities as part of a unique attempt to visit every professional ground in Scotland.

Between Friday 25th and Sunday 27th May, the boys visited all 42 SPFL football grounds in just 42 hours. Their efforts raised thousands of pounds for Nil by Mouth’s Champions for Change schools programme, helped the Tartan Army Children’s Charity which supports disadvantaged children and Kayleigh’s Wee Stars which makes dreams come true for children with life threatening and terminal illness.

During the group’s 1302 mile journey they undertook challenges at each ground including blindfolded penalty kicks and even found time to visit the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park. The 42 in 42 team of Iain Wood, Tony Mulloy, John Cruden, Rod Lawman, Stewart Ingram, Willie Hepburn and Kenny Thomwhere also joined on route by footballing figures including Archie McPherson, Rab Douglas, Ray Montgomerie, Jim Spence and Frank McAvennie. The team also met with Nil By Mouth Campaign Director, Dave Scott, at St. Mirren Park in Paisley and Education Officer, Jamie Lithgow, at Station Park in Forfar. Neither could match the group’s penalty taking expertise however.

Nil By Mouth Education Officer, Jamie Lithgow, Said:

‘We have been humbled by the efforts of Iain and the lads. We are extremely grateful that Nil By Mouth were selected as one of the charities to benefit from such a unique venture. The money raised will be put towards our Champions for Change schools programme which aims to build bridges between schools and promote tolerance and friendship between pupils and within their community. I can think of no better role models to illustrate this than the 42 in 42 lads.’

Many of the SPFL Clubs visited donated gifts to the team which are being given away as prizes to a few lucky people who were kind enough to donate to the cause. You may still be in with a chance of winning some signed memorabilia as donations are still open at https://mydonate.bt.com/events/42in42
